Sarawak Announces Additional Public Holiday for Aidilfitri 2026

KUALA LUMPUR – The Sarawak state government has officially declared an additional public holiday in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations this year.

Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, stated that the specific date for the extra holiday will depend on the official sighting of the moon and the subsequent determination of 1 Syawal.

According to the official statement released today, the scheduling of the holiday will follow two possible scenarios:

  • Scenario A: If 1 Syawal falls on Friday, March 20, then Monday, March 23 will be designated as the additional public holiday throughout the state.
  • Scenario B: If 1 Syawal falls on Saturday, March 21, the additional public holiday will instead be observed on Friday, March 20.

Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar clarified that this declaration is an extension of the existing public holidays already mandated under the First Schedule of the Public Holidays Ordinance.

The move is expected to provide Sarawakians with more flexibility for travel and family gatherings during the festive season.
