Perlis King Leads 1,000 in Special Prayer for Rain at Istana Arau

KUALA LUMPUR – The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, joined nearly 1,000 congregants this morning to perform the Solat Sunat Al-Istisqa’ (special prayer for rain) at the Dataran Istiadat, Istana Arau.

The spiritual assembly, which commenced at 8:00 AM, was held as a collective plea for divine intervention amidst a severe drought and a heatwave that has parched the northern state. Accompanying the King were the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the Second Heir to the Perlis Throne, Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra Al-Haj Jamalullail.

A Unified Plea

The prayer was led by the Deputy Director of the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs), Ahmad Sirajuddin Abdul Satar, who also delivered a sermon. In his address, he urged the Muslim community to return to the path of piety, engage in self-reflection (muhasabah), and seek forgiveness (istighfar) to invite the blessings of rain.

“This prayer is an act of humility and a reminder of our reliance on the Almighty during times of hardship,” he noted during the sermon.

State-Wide Implementation

The Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) confirmed that the efforts would extend beyond the palace walls. Starting tomorrow, March 27, 2026, all mosques across the state will incorporate the Istisqa’ supplication into their Friday sermons. This practice will continue indefinitely until the weather conditions improve, as advised by JAIPs and the State Mufti Department.

The event took place under strict heat-safety guidelines, with many attendees seen using umbrellas and bringing their own prayer mats to stay comfortable during the outdoor session.
