Geely Unveils AI-Powered Galaxy Battleship 700 PHEV 4×4

BEIJING — Chinese automotive giant Geely has revealed its newest off-road SUV, the Geely Galaxy Battleship 700, an advanced plug-in hybrid vehicle that combines artificial intelligence technology with extreme performance capabilities. The rugged 4×4 is scheduled to make its public debut at the Auto China Beijing Auto Show, highlighting the company’s ambitions to compete in the rapidly growing global off-road SUV segment.

The new SUV marks Geely’s first serious entry into the hardcore off-road market, which has traditionally been dominated by well-known models such as the Land Rover Defender and the Toyota Land Cruiser. With its bold design and powerful hybrid drivetrain, the Galaxy Battleship 700 aims to rival these legendary vehicles while introducing a new generation of intelligent off-road technologies.

From a design perspective, the vehicle features a boxy and muscular body shape, wide fenders, and large wheel arches that emphasize its rugged capabilities. The front fascia includes a wide grille paired with circular headlights and a distinctive horizontal light bar carrying the illuminated Geely Galaxy logo. Other off-road styling cues include upright side mirrors, squared windows, and a robust bumper design, giving the SUV a strong and durable appearance.

Inside the cabin, the Battleship 700 adopts a futuristic yet functional layout. The centre console is dominated by a large gear selector inspired by aircraft throttle controls, surrounded by switches and buttons designed to operate various off-road driving modes. Physical controls are also included to activate advanced features such as differential locks, low-range gearing, and specialized terrain settings for challenging environments.

One of the most notable aspects of the SUV is its AI-assisted powertrain management system. The vehicle uses artificial intelligence to determine the most efficient combination of petrol and electric power depending on road conditions, terrain type, and driving demands. This intelligent system allows the vehicle to automatically optimize performance whether it is driving on highways, rough trails, or slippery surfaces.

Powering the Battleship 700 is a high-performance plug-in hybrid system combining a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing around 279 PS with multiple electric motors. Depending on the configuration, the drivetrain can deliver between 897 PS and up to 1,400 PS, making it one of the most powerful hybrid off-road SUVs ever developed by a Chinese manufacturer.

The hybrid system is also expected to be paired with large battery packs estimated at 55 kWh or 70 kWh, allowing the vehicle to deliver strong electric driving capability alongside extreme power output. This combination of electrification and performance reflects the automotive industry’s broader shift toward hybrid and electric technology without sacrificing off-road capability.

In addition to its powerful drivetrain, the SUV is expected to feature advanced off-road technologies such as tank-turn capability, intelligent traction systems, and adaptive four-wheel-drive functions. These features are designed to enhance maneuverability and stability in extreme terrain conditions while maintaining driver control and safety.

The introduction of the Galaxy Battleship 700 also highlights Geely’s broader strategy to expand its Galaxy sub-brand, which focuses on new-energy vehicles and advanced automotive technologies. With growing demand for electrified SUVs worldwide, the company is positioning the model as a flagship off-road product that combines rugged performance with next-generation smart technology.

Industry observers say the launch could intensify competition in the global SUV market, particularly as Chinese manufacturers continue to introduce high-performance vehicles that challenge established Western and Japanese brands. If successful, the Battleship 700 could pave the way for an entire lineup of intelligent off-road vehicles from Geely in the coming years.
