Khairy Jamaluddin Submits Official Application to Rejoin UMNO

KUALA LUMPUR – Former UMNO Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin has officially submitted an application to rejoin UMNO, stating that he now leaves his political fate in the hands of the party’s top leadership.

The decision marks a significant turn in the political career of the former Health Minister, who was previously expelled from the party during a major leadership cleanup.

Speaking to reporters at an Aidilfitri open house in Benut, Khairy confirmed that his formal application has been filed. The matter is expected to be deliberated during the UMNO Supreme Council (MKT) meeting scheduled for April 17, 2026.

“I have submitted the application letter and am leaving it entirely to UMNO to decide,” Khairy stated.

Despite his high-profile background, Khairy emphasized his willingness to return to the grassroots. He expressed that if his application is approved, he intends to serve as an ordinary member first, without seeking any immediate leadership positions.

“I want to start as a regular member. I am not thinking about any positions right now as I am still in the process of returning to the party,” he added.

The reconciliation process was reportedly facilitated by UMNO Executive Secretary and Pontian UMNO Division Deputy Chief, Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan, who helped arrange a meeting between Khairy and UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

UMNO Vice President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin previously noted that several applications from former leaders, including Khairy’s, would be brought to the MKT for a final decision. This move is seen by political analysts as a potential step toward consolidating the party’s strength ahead of future electoral challenges.
