No Areas in Malaysia Recorded Level 2 Heatwave as of Monday Morning

KUALA LUMPUR – According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), no locations across the country have recorded a Level 2 Heatwave as of 6:00 AM today.

However, several northern regions remain under Level 1 (Alert) status as high temperatures persist, primarily affecting the states of Perlis and Kedah.

Updated data from MetMalaysia indicates that the entire state of Perlis and nine districts in Kedah are currently experiencing Level 1 heat levels. The affected districts in Kedah include:

  • Sik, Padang Terap, and Pendang
  • Pokok Sena and Kubang Pasu
  • Langkawi Island and Kota Setar
  • Kuala Muda and Baling

Residents in several Kedah districts, including Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, and Kuala Muda, experienced much-needed rainfall yesterday. This development is attributed to the current Monsoon Transition Phase, which typically brings localized rain and thunderstorms, offering temporary respite from the scorching heat.

MetMalaysia uses a standardized classification system to monitor heat risks in the country:

  • Level 1 (Alert Status): Daily maximum temperatures between 35°C and 37°C for three consecutive days.
  • Level 2 (Heatwave): Daily maximum temperatures exceeding 37°C up to 40°C for three consecutive days.

While no areas have hit the Level 2 threshold this morning, authorities continue to advise the public to stay hydrated and minimize outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
