Two Men Remanded Over Alleged Murder of Disabled Victim in Bachok Assault Case

KUALA LUMPUR, May, 2026 — Malaysian police have obtained a six-day remand order against two men to assist in investigations into the alleged murder of a person with disabilities in a brutal assault case that occurred in Bachok, Kelantan.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nik Mohd Fadli Datuk Nik Azlan at the Pasir Puteh Magistrate’s Court, allowing investigators to detain both suspects as police continue gathering evidence under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction.

The two suspects, both aged 25, were brought to court under tight police escort earlier in the morning, as investigators continue efforts to reconstruct the events leading up to the victim’s death.

Victim Identified as 20-Year-Old PwD Who Suffered Severe Injuries

According to police sources, the victim was a 20-year-old man with learning disabilities who was allegedly assaulted in an incident that took place on April 15 at Ladang Merdeka Cherbu, Padang Lati, Bachok.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victim sustained serious head injuries following the attack. He was initially rushed to receive emergency treatment before being transferred to the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Specialist Hospital in Kubang Kerian, Kota Bharu.

Despite medical intervention, the victim later succumbed to his injuries, prompting authorities to upgrade the investigation to a murder case.

Police believe the assault may have involved more than one individual, although the exact sequence of events and motive remain under investigation.

Forensic Investigation and Evidence Collection Ongoing

Law enforcement officials are currently conducting a detailed investigation, which includes:

  • Forensic examination of the victim’s injuries
  • Collection of physical evidence from the crime scene
  • Interviews with witnesses and local residents
  • Analysis of possible CCTV footage in the surrounding area
  • Reconstruction of the timeline leading to the incident

Authorities said the remand period is crucial for investigators to establish whether the suspects acted alone or were part of a larger group.

Police have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests as the investigation continues.

Case Investigated Under Section 302 of Penal Code

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which deals with murder offences in Malaysia. If found guilty, the accused may face the death penalty or imprisonment, depending on court proceedings and judicial discretion.

Legal experts note that murder cases involving vulnerable victims, including persons with disabilities, are often treated with heightened seriousness due to the vulnerability of the victim and public interest considerations.

Public Outrage and Concern Over Violence Against PwD

The case has sparked concern among members of the public and advocacy groups, particularly due to the victim’s status as a person with disabilities.

Disability rights advocates have long called for stronger protection mechanisms and stricter enforcement against abuse involving PwD individuals. They stress that vulnerable members of society require additional safeguards to prevent exploitation, neglect, or violence.

Social media reactions have also reflected widespread sympathy for the victim’s family, with many users urging authorities to ensure justice is served swiftly and transparently.

Police Urge Public Not to Speculate

Kelantan police have urged the public to avoid speculation or spreading unverified information regarding the case, warning that misinformation could interfere with ongoing investigations.

Authorities confirmed that official updates will be released once significant developments are verified and the investigation progresses.

Police also emphasized that all leads are being thoroughly examined to ensure a complete and fair investigation process.

Next Steps in Investigation

During the remand period, investigators are expected to:

  • Conduct further interrogations of the suspects
  • Verify witness testimonies
  • Cross-check forensic findings
  • Determine the exact cause and manner of death
  • Identify any possible additional suspects

Officials say the outcome of the remand investigation will play a key role in determining the next legal steps, including possible charges and further arrests.

Case Remains Under Active Investigation

As of now, the case remains under active investigation, with police continuing to gather evidence and build a comprehensive understanding of the incident.

Authorities have assured the public that justice will be pursued thoroughly, especially given the severity of the allegations and the vulnerability of the victim involved.
