Manchester United Beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 as Bruno Fernandes Matches Premier League Assist Record

Kuala Lumpur — Manchester United sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in a Premier League clash filled with goals, controversy and late tension. The result confirmed United’s hold on third place, while Bruno Fernandes reached a major individual milestone by matching the Premier League record for most assists in a single season.

United made a strong start when Luke Shaw opened the scoring in the sixth minute. After a poor defensive clearance from Nottingham Forest, Shaw controlled the ball inside the box before firing into the far corner to give the home side an early 1-0 lead.

Forest responded after the break through Morato, who headed home from an Elliot Anderson cross in the 54th minute to make it 1-1. However, United quickly restored their lead two minutes later through Matheus Cunha, although the goal sparked controversy after replays suggested Bryan Mbeumo had controlled the ball with his arm before Cunha finished the move. VAR reviewed the incident but the goal stood.

United then extended their advantage in the 76th minute when Mbeumo converted a sharp cross from Fernandes. The assist took Fernandes to 20 Premier League assists for the season, drawing him level with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne for the all-time single-season record.

Nottingham Forest refused to give up and pulled another goal back in the 79th minute through Morgan Gibbs-White, whose first-time finish made it 3-2 and set up a tense final spell. Forest pushed for an equaliser, while United also had chances to kill the game, including a late effort from Diogo Dalot that struck the post.

The win moved Manchester United to 68 points from 37 matches, enough to secure third place in the Premier League table. Nottingham Forest remained 16th with 43 points from 37 games.
