Rapid KL Train Derails on Ampang-Sri Petaling Line, No Injuries Reported

Kuala Lumpur, May 28, 2026 — A Light Rail Transit (LRT) train on Rapid KL’s Ampang-Sri Petaling Line derailed this morning near the Chan Sow Lin station, causing significant service disruptions across the line.

According to a statement from Rapid KL, the incident occurred while the train was passing a railway switch. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the 25 passengers on board, who were safely evacuated from the scene.

Rapid KL confirmed that its technical team has been deployed to investigate the cause of the derailment, with repair works already underway to restore normal operations.

To minimise inconvenience to commuters, the operator has implemented several contingency measures:

  • Trains from Sentul Timur will terminate at Pudu station
  • Trains from Putra Heights will terminate at Bandar Tasik Selatan station
  • Both directions will operate at six-minute intervals
  • Shuttle train services have been arranged between Ampang and Pandan Jaya stations (every 5 minutes)
  • Additional shuttles will run between Cheras and Bandar Tasik Selatan stations (every 8 minutes)
  • Shuttle bus services are available at key stations including Hang Tuah, Chan Sow Lin, Maluri, Cheras, and Pandan Jaya

This latest incident adds to a series of recent disruptions on Rapid KL’s rail network. Just ten days ago, on May 18, the Kelana Jaya Line experienced delays due to a technical fault involving a stalled train.

Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and check official Rapid KL channels for the latest updates on service restoration.
