KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that Malaysia is working tirelessly with friendly nations to secure the release of 16 Malaysians who were detained by Israel together with more than 100 activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF 2.0).
The activists were intercepted and detained while their vessel was sailing in international waters during a humanitarian mission to deliver aid to Gaza. They were carrying food, water, medicine and clothing – not weapons, as alleged by certain parties.
“Malaysia has lodged an official protest with Israel and demanded their immediate release and humane treatment,” said Anwar.
He added that the government is closely cooperating with friendly countries, including through engagement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to ensure the safety and swift release of all the activists.
Anwar stressed that Israel’s action against the humanitarian aid convoy is unacceptable and that Malaysia will continue to uphold the principles of justice and human rights.
All 16 Malaysians involved are volunteers with the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0, which aims to send essential aid to Gaza amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
