Arsenal Targeting Marcus Rashford? Gunners ‘Can Come Knocking’ After Barcelona Reject £26m Option for 14-Goal Loan Star

KUALA LUMPUR: Transfer speculation surrounding Marcus Rashford is heating up, with Arsenal reportedly emerging as a potential new destination for the 28-year-old striker. The Manchester United-owned forward, currently on loan at Barcelona, is viewed as an attractive option for Mikel Arteta to bolster the Gunners’ attack next season.

According to the latest reports, Barcelona are unwilling to activate the £26 million permanent purchase option despite Rashford contributing 14 goals throughout his loan spell with the La Liga club. While his performances have been impressive — including stepping up to fill the void left by Raphinha — the Catalan club’s financial issues are preventing them from keeping him on a permanent deal.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, personally praised Rashford’s impact. “Marcus has helped us a lot. He came on loan and it’s not easy for a player of his calibre to adapt. He was responsible for replacing Raphinha and he did it very well,” said Deco.

Rashford himself is said to be enjoying his time in Spain, but his future at Old Trafford appears to be all but over. The player’s entourage believes Arsenal could “come knocking” if the right price is offered.

Arteta is planning a major revamp of his attacking options following Arsenal’s Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The Gunners boss has stressed the need to be “ambitious, fast and smart” in this summer’s transfer window. Aside from Rashford, Arsenal are also eyeing several other targets including Real Madrid youngster Victor Valdepenas, Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, and are battling Manchester United for Leicester City’s young talent Jeremy Monga.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich have also been monitoring Rashford’s situation, but Arsenal’s interest is currently seen as the most serious. With club revenue projected to hit £770 million under the Kroenke family ownership, Arteta has the financial backing to make a bold statement in the market.

Will Rashford return to the Premier League in Arsenal’s red-and-white jersey? Or will he stay in Europe with another club? All eyes are now on this summer’s transfer developments. Stay tuned for the latest updates! ⚽
