Elderly Man Jailed 33 Years and Given 14 Strokes for Sexual Crimes Against Two Granddaughters

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2026 — A 67-year-old man has been sentenced to 33 years in prison and 14 strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court in Muar after pleading guilty to rape and sexual offences involving his two granddaughters.

The sentence was handed down by Sessions Court judge Mohd Khairi Haron on June 19 after the court was satisfied with the accused’s guilty plea. The man, who is a father of three, faced five charges related to offences against the two young victims.

According to the report, the victims were aged 12 and nine. Their identities were not disclosed, in line with legal and ethical protections for children involved in sexual offence cases.

For the first and fourth charges, the accused was charged with committing sexual assault against his 12-year-old granddaughter at a house in Batu Pahat, Johor. These charges were framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16 of the same Act.

Section 14 of the Act provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping, while Section 16 allows for additional punishment of up to five years’ imprisonment and not fewer than two strokes of the cane.

For the second and third charges, the accused was charged with raping the 12-year-old victim at the same house between January and December 2025. The charges were brought under Section 376(2)(d) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping for each charge.

The fifth charge involved physical sexual assault against another granddaughter, aged nine. The offence was also reported to have taken place at the same location in 2025.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Ameerah Allaudeen, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer during proceedings.

In addition to the prison sentence and whipping, the court ordered the accused to undergo counselling throughout his detention. He was also placed under three years of police supervision after completing his sentence, in line with Sections 26 and 27 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
