Gresini To Rely Only On Alex Marquez At Sachsenring As Fermin Aldeguer Remains Injured

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Gresini Racing will compete with only one rider at the 2026 German MotoGP in Sachsenring this weekend, with Alex Marquez set to carry the team’s hopes alone. The Ducati satellite team confirmed it will not field a replacement for Fermin Aldeguer, who is still recovering from injury.

Aldeguer suffered a vertebra fracture after crashing during a free practice session at the Dutch MotoGP in Assen on Friday, July 3. The injury has forced the Spanish rider to miss the Sachsenring round as he continues his recovery process.

In an official team statement shared through social media, Gresini said Aldeguer remains sidelined and will not take part in the German GP. The team also confirmed that no substitute rider will be brought in for the weekend, leaving Alex Marquez as its sole representative on the grid.

The decision means Gresini will face a challenging weekend in Germany, especially as Sachsenring is known as a demanding circuit that requires precision, confidence and strong cornering consistency. With only one rider available, the team’s race strategy, data collection and points-scoring opportunity will depend entirely on Alex Marquez.

Gresini has already used several riders during the 2026 MotoGP season. Besides Alex Marquez and Aldeguer, the Italian team previously fielded Michele Pirro and Iker Lecuona as replacement riders in selected rounds.

Pirro stepped in for Aldeguer during the season-opening Thai MotoGP in Buriram, while Lecuona replaced Alex Marquez at the Hungarian MotoGP. Lecuona impressed on his Ducati MotoGP debut by finishing seventh, but he is unavailable for Sachsenring because he is scheduled to race in the WorldSBK round at Donington Park on the same weekend.

Aldeguer is now expected to return only after MotoGP’s summer break. The British MotoGP at Silverstone in early August is viewed as a more realistic comeback target for the 21-year-old rider, depending on how his recovery progresses.

The injury setback comes during a period of transition for Gresini. The team has already announced Joan Mir and Dani Holgado as its new rider line-up for the 2027 MotoGP season. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez is set to move to the factory KTM team in 2027, while Aldeguer has been linked with a future move to VR46.
