College Worker Pleads Not Guilty To Sexual Offence Charges Involving Two Teen Boys

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – A college worker pleaded not guilty at the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Friday to charges involving alleged sexual offences against two teenage boys last month. The accused, Fikri Zainal Abidin, 38, entered the plea after all charges were read before Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

According to the charges, the accused was alleged to have committed physical sexual assault against two 14-year-old boys on June 20, 23 and 29. The alleged incidents were said to have taken place at a college hostel and a house in Section 18, Shah Alam.

The charges were filed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. If convicted, the offence carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and possible whipping.

The accused also faced charges under Section 377C of the Penal Code. The section provides for imprisonment of not less than five years and up to 20 years, along with whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutors Roshaira Rosly and K. S. Rinisha Priyya did not offer bail for the accused. The accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, appealed to the court to consider bail, saying he needed to care for his parents.

Judge Awang Kerisnada denied bail and fixed August 11 for the next mention of the case. The accused remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by the court.

The case had earlier drawn attention after a college employee was arrested at a restaurant in Shah Alam on July 4. The arrest was made following suspicion over alleged offences involving two male students.

The case highlights the seriousness of child protection laws in Malaysia, especially in cases involving minors and educational environments. It also places renewed focus on the importance of safe spaces, institutional responsibility and proper legal process when allegations involving children are brought before the court.
