KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has claimed that a victory by Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election could alter the state’s political landscape through a future redelineation of State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituencies.
Speaking during the campaign period, Takiyuddin argued that if PH secures another mandate to govern the state, the coalition could pursue a restructuring of electoral boundaries by increasing the number of DUN seats. According to him, such changes could have long-term political implications for future elections.
He alleged that larger constituencies currently represented by Pakatan Harapan, particularly those held by DAP, could potentially be divided into smaller constituencies if a redelineation exercise were undertaken. Takiyuddin claimed this could strengthen PH’s electoral position in the state over the long term.
The PAS leader also urged voters to carefully consider the broader implications of the election, arguing that the outcome would not only determine the next state government but could also influence the future composition of the Negeri Sembilan State Assembly.
Takiyuddin’s remarks came as political parties intensified campaigning ahead of polling day, with both the government coalition and the opposition seeking to secure support across all constituencies in Negeri Sembilan.
The issue of electoral boundary redelineation has periodically emerged in Malaysian politics, as changes in population distribution may lead to proposals for new constituencies. However, any increase in the number of DUN seats or boundary changes must comply with constitutional and legal procedures and involve the relevant electoral authorities before they can be implemented.
