KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — A seven-year-old Indonesian boy has been reported missing after falling into a river near a supermarket at Persiaran Subang Indah, Subang Jaya, prompting an extensive search and rescue operation by the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.
According to Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar, the incident occurred at approximately 6.30pm on Monday, August 10, while the boy was playing with his friends near the river.
Authorities received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.06pm. Firefighters from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station were immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene at around 8.16pm. The location was approximately seven kilometres from the fire station.
Initial information indicated that the child had fallen into the river and could not be located, leading firefighters to launch a search operation using the surface searching method.
The Fire and Rescue Department also deployed its specialised Water Rescue Team (PPDA) from Shah Alam to assist with the operation as efforts intensified to locate the missing boy.
A total of nine personnel were involved in the operation, supported by a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), two boats and a Triton utility vehicle.
As of the latest information in the original report, the boy had not yet been found, and the search and rescue operation remained ongoing. Other Malaysian media reports also described the child as feared drowned following the incident.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with rivers and waterways, particularly for young children. Search teams continue to focus on locating the boy while authorities coordinate resources at the scene.
