MATRADE’s eTRADE 2.0 Generates RM438.7 Million in Export Sales Across 163 Markets

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Malaysia’s cross-border e-commerce sector continues to gain momentum, with the eTRADE 2.0 programme generating RM438.7 million in actual export sales and helping local businesses enter 163 international markets.

The programme, implemented by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) during the 12th Malaysia Plan from 2021 to 2025, supported more than 2,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through grants, training, technical guidance and capacity-building initiatives.

An impact assessment conducted by UKM Pakarunding Sdn Bhd found that participating companies successfully expanded into a wide range of overseas markets, including less commonly targeted destinations such as Réunion Island, Kiribati and Nauru.

ASEAN remained an important export destination, with around 30% of participating companies strengthening their presence in regional markets.

Among the strongest-performing Malaysian product categories were ready-to-eat food, beverages, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, household goods and plastics.

The assessment also showed that at least 852 new Malaysian products were listed on international e-commerce platforms, helping increase their visibility among global consumers.

The results highlight the growing role of digital platforms in helping Malaysian MSMEs reach overseas customers without relying entirely on traditional export channels. MATRADE’s eTRADE 2.0 initiative has also helped businesses improve their digital readiness while gaining practical experience in cross-border e-commerce.

The RM438.7 million export performance reflects Malaysia’s broader push to strengthen digital trade and create more opportunities for local businesses to compete internationally.
