KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Russian missile, drone and glide-bomb attacks across Ukraine killed at least 10 civilians on Tuesday, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Moscow is receiving fresh military support from North Korea.
In the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, Russian forces reportedly used North Korean-supplied ballistic missiles in an overnight attack. Seven workers at a steel plant were killed and another 21 were injured, according to the company.
Three more people, including a 15-year-old boy, were killed in separate Russian drone and artillery attacks in the central Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukrainian authorities said.
Zelenskyy also said North Korea is preparing to deploy additional troops to Russia, adding to the thousands of soldiers and large quantities of weapons already provided to support Moscow’s war effort.
Russia and North Korea deepened their military relationship after President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a strategic partnership agreement in 2024 that included a pledge of mutual assistance if either country faced aggression.
Ukraine has also warned that Russia is increasing its production of ballistic missiles while preparing to recruit additional troops for possible new offensive operations along the approximately 1,250-kilometre front line in eastern and southern Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said these developments indicate that Russia is preparing for further escalation rather than moving towards peace, pointing to growing missile production, North Korean military equipment and preparations for mobilisation.
The latest attacks come as diplomatic efforts to end the more than four-year war remain stalled, while Ukraine continues to face pressure from Russian strikes and shortages of critical air-defence interceptors.
