Man Pleads Not Guilty to Robbing and Injuring Woman Holding Two-Month-Old Baby in Perak

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — A 49-year-old unemployed man pleaded not guilty at the Ipoh Sessions Court on Friday to a charge of robbery causing injury involving a woman at a residence in Taman Batu Gajah Perdana, Perak.

The accused, Lee Koon Yew, was charged with committing the offence against Fatin Fazira Ahmad Fauzi, 26, at approximately 11.40am on August 8.

The charge was framed under Section 394 of the Penal Code, which covers voluntarily causing hurt while committing or attempting to commit robbery. If convicted, the offence carries a prison term of up to 20 years and may also include a fine or whipping.

Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Raveena told the court that the victim was holding her two-month-old baby at the time of the incident.

The woman sustained injuries and was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.

The prosecution initially offered bail of RM20,000 with one surety.

Defence lawyer Dhirren Amaresha, representing Lee, appealed for a lower bail amount, telling the court that his client is a single father of two children and suffers from high blood pressure.

Sessions Court Judge Norhayati Mohamad Yunus ultimately allowed bail of RM8,000 with one surety.

The accused was also ordered to report to a police station every month, surrender his passport to the court and refrain from interfering with prosecution witnesses until the case is concluded.

The court fixed September 23, 2026 for the next case mention.

The case attracted public attention after a 53-second video went viral on social media on August 8.

According to the report, the footage showed a man leaving the area on a motorcycle after an alleged attempted robbery at a house while the victim recorded the incident.

A day later, Batu Gajah District Police Chief ACP Md Noor Aehawan Mohammad confirmed that police had arrested a man suspected of involvement in the robbery and injury incident at Taman Batu Gajah Perdana.

The accused has now formally entered a not-guilty plea, and the allegations remain subject to determination by the court.

The case will continue when it returns for mention in September.
