Tengku Zafrul Says Reform Must Deliver Real Benefits to Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR, AUAGUST 2026 — Prime Minister’s Senior Political Adviser Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has stressed that Malaysia’s reform agenda must produce clear and meaningful results that can be seen and experienced by the public.

He said the Madani government has introduced various initiatives, but more work is needed to ensure their benefits reach every segment of society. He pointed to Malaysia’s 6% economic growth, saying strong headline figures must ultimately translate into better outcomes for ordinary Malaysians.

Tengku Zafrul made the remarks following discussions at the 2026 PKR National Congress in Melaka, which he said generally reflected the tone and key messages delivered by PKR president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his policy speech.

He also highlighted the importance of improving government communication so that Malaysians are aware of policies, reforms and achievements already introduced. According to him, failure to communicate these initiatives effectively should not be blamed on the public.

Among the reforms highlighted were plans involving the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU), efforts to rehabilitate key public institutions such as FELDA, and several economic measures expected to be included in the upcoming Budget.

Tengku Zafrul said these initiatives demonstrate that the government and PKR recognise there is still more to be done. He added that stronger working mechanisms, party unity and better engagement with the public would be important in maintaining trust and advancing future reform programmes.

He said PKR’s future strength will depend on its willingness to listen more closely to the people, strengthen its party machinery and ensure reforms produce tangible results that improve everyday lives.
