Budget 2027 to Ease Cost of Living and Strengthen Malaysia’s Economic Resilience

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Malaysia’s Budget 2027 will focus on strengthening economic resilience, protecting public well-being and improving fiscal sustainability as the country navigates global economic uncertainty, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said.

The government will continue efforts to address cost-of-living pressures, increase household income and expand access to quality employment through targeted and sustainable measures. The aim is to ensure that economic growth delivers benefits across all levels of society.

Malaysia will also seek to improve its economic competitiveness by attracting high-quality investment, raising productivity and accelerating development in strategic industries. Priority areas include semiconductors, the energy transition, the digital economy, artificial intelligence and Islamic finance.

Support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and startups will remain another key priority. Measures are expected to improve access to financing, digitalisation, innovation and new markets, helping more Malaysian products and services enter global value chains.

Budget 2027 will also support improvements in education, healthcare and human capital development in line with the 13th Malaysia Plan. The government intends to strengthen cooperation with NGOs and other organisations to ensure social assistance reaches vulnerable communities more effectively.

At the same time, Putrajaya plans to improve the business environment by simplifying regulations, facilitating investments, digitalising government services and reducing bureaucratic procedures to strengthen Malaysia’s competitiveness.

Budget 2027 carries the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Reaching for the Skies, Rooted in the Earth” and is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on October 9, 2026.
