KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has begun preparations to establish its first hospital, with a dedicated task force formed to develop the project as part of its wider healthcare and education ecosystem.
MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the proposed hospital would serve not only as a medical facility but also as a teaching hospital, healthcare centre of excellence and economic catalyst for Bumiputera communities.
MARA already operates an extensive healthcare network comprising around 160 UniKlinik, UniFarmasi and UniDental branches. It also oversees Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP), which trains doctors, while Kolej Poly-Tech MARA provides nursing education.
Asyraf said a teaching hospital would strengthen clinical training opportunities for students studying medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and other health-related programmes at UniKL RCMP.
The proposed hospital could also integrate MARA’s broader capabilities in technical and vocational education, engineering, technology, entrepreneurship, financing and industrial development. These resources could help build a more comprehensive healthcare ecosystem under one institution.
Programmes such as Biomedical Science at UniKL MESTECH and technology disciplines across other UniKL campuses could also be linked to the hospital, creating opportunities for medical research, innovation and technology development.
MARA also sees the hospital as a potential “living laboratory” where students and researchers can gain practical experience while developing new healthcare solutions.
The initiative marks a significant expansion of MARA’s role in Malaysia’s healthcare sector after six decades of developing Bumiputera professionals across medicine, nursing, technology and related fields.
