Penang Officially Recognized as a “Food Paradise” in Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2026

Penang, El Sky News – Penang has officially been recognized as a “Food Paradise” with 74 restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2026, including two newly starred Michelin restaurants.

According to an official statement from the Penang State Executive Council for Tourism and Culture, this recognition highlights the international acclaim for the quality, creativity, and diversity of Penang’s culinary scene ranging from traditional street food to world-class fine dining.

“This achievement proves that Penang is not only a tourism destination but also a haven for food lovers. The Michelin recognition will attract more tourists and culinary enthusiasts to experience the unique flavors we offer,” said the council member.

The two newly starred restaurants this year are:

  1. The Blue Lotus – offering modern interpretations of Peranakan Chinese cuisine.
  2. Harbour Elegance a fine dining seafood-focused restaurant emphasizing fresh local ingredients and contemporary cooking techniques.

The remaining 72 restaurants are included in the Bib Gourmand and Recommended categories, featuring popular local dishes such as char koay teow, assam laksa, and nasi kandar.

This recognition is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, including boosting tourism and the food industry, while inspiring young chefs to maintain high culinary standards.
