Controversy Over Que Haidar’s “Open Shirt” at GV12: Ramli MS Steps In for Decency, Netizens Urge Respect for Family-Friendly Show

SHAH ALAM, El Sky News – The appearance of renowned actor Que Haidar at the Gegar Vaganza Season 12 (GV12) concert last Sunday sparked heated debate among viewers and social media users. Que, who appeared as a surprise guest, became the talk of the night not for his vocal performance, but for his daring outfit — a shirt worn with several buttons left open, revealing much of his chest.

His bold look drew mixed reactions, including an on-air reminder from the show’s chief judge, Datuk Ramli MS, affectionately known as Tok Ram.

Tok Ram’s Spontaneous Reminder, Que Complies… Briefly

During the live broadcast, the veteran musician was seen spontaneously pointing out Que’s outfit, asking him to button up his shirt — likely in the interest of maintaining sensitivity toward viewers of various ages, especially given GV12’s position as a family-oriented programme.

Que, who was seated in the audience area behind the judges’ panel, complied immediately and buttoned up his shirt. Tok Ram’s impromptu reminder was met with applause and praise from netizens who supported the enforcement of proper attire on a prime-time television show.

Netizens: “GV Is a Family Show — Respect the Etiquette!”

However, the controversy didn’t end there. On social media platforms such as X (Twitter) and Threads, many netizens expressed displeasure and criticised the image portrayed by the actor, who is currently trending with the “Mencari Jamilah” phenomenon.

Most comments questioned the appropriateness of such attire on a live, family-friendly broadcast.

“Gegar Vaganza is a family show. Can’t he wear a shirt properly buttoned up? Please respect the show’s etiquette,” one X user wrote.

“Annoying to watch. After Tok Ram told him to button up, he did it — then opened it again. As if we’re dying to see his chest. Gross… sorry to say,” said another user, upset by claims that Que unbuttoned his shirt again moments later.

Que’s appearance is seen as part of his transformation into a more muscular physique, often showcased on his social media platforms. While many applaud his fitness journey, netizens argue that such displays must be appropriate for the event he is attending.

Astro and the GV12 production team have consistently ensured that broadcast content aligns with local broadcasting guidelines. This incident is expected to serve as a reminder for celebrities appearing as guests on similar programmes in the future.
