Malaysia Confirms Commitment, Promotes Global Digital Inclusivity at WTDC-25

KUALA LUMPUR, El Sky News – Malaysia continues to strengthen its international standing by playing a key role in shaping the future of the global telecommunications sector, particularly ahead of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25).

The Malaysian delegation, comprising industry leaders and policymakers, shared the country’s successful experiences in 5G deployment and initiatives to achieve “Meaningful Connectivity,” ensuring no digital divide remains.

Driving 5G Experience and Meaningful Connectivity

Malaysia’s aggressive 5G rollout through the Single Wholesale Network (SWN) model has attracted attention from many developing nations. It is seen as a potential model to accelerate infrastructure deployment while reducing capital costs.

During pre-WTDC meetings, Malaysia emphasized three main pillars:

  • Access and Affordability: Ensuring high-quality digital services are not only available but also affordable to all segments of society.
  • Cybersecurity and Privacy: Implementing stringent measures to maintain a safe and secure digital ecosystem.
  • Innovative Use: Promoting the application of emerging technologies (such as IoT, AI, and 5G) in key sectors like smart agriculture, healthcare, and education.

“Meaningful Connectivity is more than just providing a connection. It’s about how that connection improves quality of life, bridges socio-economic gaps, and drives the digital economy,” said a source from the Malaysian delegation.

Contributing to Global Direction

Malaysia’s active participation in WTDC-25 is a strategic effort to ensure the country’s, and ASEAN’s, interests are reflected in global resolutions. Contributions include:

  • Digital Capacity Development: Training and education programs to build a skilled workforce in emerging technologies.
  • Reducing the Digital Divide: Targeted strategies for rural and underserved areas.
  • Flexible Regulatory Frameworks: Advocating for adaptive global telecommunications regulations that do not hinder innovation, especially in countries with unique geographic challenges.

Through this leadership, Malaysia not only demonstrates maturity in its domestic telecommunications sector but also strengthens its technological diplomacy. The country is positioned to lead regional and global discussions toward a more inclusive and sustainable digital development agenda.
