Israel Continues Strikes on Lebanon, Killing 7 Including Islamic Jihad Commander

Kuala Lumpur — Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon on Sunday killed at least seven people, including a senior commander from Palestinian Islamic Jihad and his teenage daughter, Lebanese authorities reported.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA), an Israeli missile struck an apartment on the outskirts of the eastern city of Baalbek around midnight. The attack killed Wael Abdel Halim (also reported as Wael Abdul Halim), a commander in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and his 17-year-old daughter, Rama. Rescue teams are still searching the rubble for possible survivors.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry gave a preliminary toll of seven killed in Sunday’s strikes. This includes three deaths in Tayr Felsay (one child) and two in Tayr Debba (another child), with additional injuries reported in southern villages.

The strikes occurred despite a fragile ceasefire agreement. Hezbollah described ongoing US-brokered talks between Lebanon and Israel as a “dead end” and strongly condemned the continued Israeli operations. Israel has maintained that its actions target militant infrastructure and figures linked to rocket attacks and threats against its territory.

In addition to the Baalbek strike, Israeli forces hit areas in the Bekaa Valley, including Sohmor, and issued new evacuation warnings for villages near Sidon in southern Lebanon.

This latest escalation comes amid persistent cross-border tensions, with both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire. The violence has displaced hundreds of thousands and caused significant casualties on the Lebanese side since the conflict intensified.

Further updates are expected as rescue operations continue and diplomatic efforts unfold.
