Flash Flood Emergency: Key Sections Of Shah Alam Submerged, Persiaren Budiman Closed

Shah Alam, El Sky News – Unrelenting heavy rain that began in the early hours of Monday has triggered severe flash floods across major areas of Shah Alam, Selangor. The Section 25 area and its surroundings have been hit the hardest, with the most critical situation observed along Persiaran Budiman.

Viral video footage, recorded by motorists, clearly shows a significant surge of brown water engulfing almost the entire stretch of Persiaran Budiman. Water levels have reached dangerous heights, forcing the temporary closure of this vital route leading towards Section 25 and resulting in complete traffic gridlock. Smaller vehicles are visibly struggling to navigate the strong currents.

Section 25: The Epicenter of the Disaster

Section 25 is the primary focus of the flood emergency, as numerous locations within it have been reported submerged. This includes high-density residential areas such as Taman Desa Kemuning, Taman Bukit Kemuning, and Taman Sri Muda, a neighborhood historically prone to severe flooding.

Beyond residential zones, commercial and industrial activities are severely disrupted. Flooding has been reported at the Axis Industrial Park and the Giant hypermarket in Section 25. The high water level also affects crucial connecting roads, including Jalan Mattop 25/126 and Jalan Mattop 25/128.

The floodwater has additionally spread to the industrial zones in Section 22 and 23, specifically along Persiaran Perusahaan in both areas. Other locations experiencing significant water accumulation include Persiaran Bukit Perak and Persiaran Jubli Perak in Section 26.

Authorities Respond with Traffic Diversions and Warnings

Authorities, including the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), have swiftly activated flood response protocols. As a safety measure, motorists traveling from Persiaran Budiman toward Section 25 are strongly advised to utilize alternative routes until the water fully recedes and the roads are deemed safe.

Field operations teams are currently focused on monitoring the state of the drainage and irrigation systems in the severely affected areas. Furthermore, evacuation readiness has been heightened, particularly in high-risk zones like Taman Sri Muda, Section 25, which has a notorious history of severe inundation.

Residents in low-lying areas or those near main rivers and drainage canals are urged to take immediate precautions. They should move vehicles and valuable assets to higher ground in anticipation of potential subsequent flash floods.

Weather Outlook and Chronic Infrastructure Issues

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued warnings indicating that the possibility of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms remains for several districts in Selangor throughout the afternoon, raising concerns about recurrent flash floods.

Experts note that the chronic, recurring flooding in the Section 25 area is likely due to a combination of factors: extreme rainfall exceeding the capacity of local river systems and drainage, compounded by development challenges in low-lying terrain. Long-term infrastructure solutions and improved water management governance are urgently needed to address this critical issue.
