Flash Floods Hit TTDI Jaya, Shah Alam Submerged, Vehicles Struggle Through Strong Currents

SHAH ALAM, El Sky News – Continuous heavy rainfall across the Klang Valley early Monday morning has caused severe flooding in several commercial areas and roads in Shah Alam, with TTDI Jaya emerging as one of the worst-hit locations.

TTDI Jaya Paralyzed as Water Reaches Shop Entrances
Reports and video footage received around 10:45 a.m. show streets in TTDI Jaya’s commercial hub inundated with water at alarming levels. Water has risen to knee height and, in some areas, almost reached the doors of four-wheel-drive vehicles. Motorists were forced to drive through strong currents, while motorcycles were stranded and businesses temporarily halted operations.

The rapid rise in water levels has alarmed local shop owners and residents, who fear damage to property and merchandise.

NKVE Traffic Gridlock
The flooding also affected the main artery of the area, the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE). Heavy congestion was reported before and after the Shah Alam Toll Plaza, with some lanes closed due to water overflow.

PLUS Malaysia advised motorists to avoid the KM 9.1 stretch of the NKVE, which was severely affected, and suggested alternative routes such as the Federal Highway or local roads.

Authorities Urge Caution and Swift Action
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) and the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) had issued ongoing warnings for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Local authorities and emergency agencies are actively monitoring the situation and providing assistance. Residents are advised to:

  • Avoid driving through flooded areas and turn off engines if water levels become too high.
  • Check traffic updates before starting their journey.
  • Follow authorities’ instructions if evacuation orders are issued.

Traffic is expected to gradually normalize once the water recedes, although congestion may persist into the late afternoon.
