Korean Entertainment Industry in Mourning: Veteran Actor Lee Soon Jae Dies at 91

SEOUL, El Sky News – The South Korean entertainment world and global K-Drama fans are in mourning following the passing of beloved veteran actor and cultural icon Lee Soon Jae, who died on Tuesday morning (25 November 2025) at the age of 91.

The news was confirmed by his family and management agency, SG Way Entertainment. Although the exact cause of death was not officially disclosed, the late actor had stepped back from artistic activities since late last year due to health-related concerns.

Seven Decades of Legacy

Lee Soon Jae was known as one of the most senior and active actors in South Korea, with a remarkable career spanning more than seven decades. Beyond his acting achievements, he also contributed as an academic and even served as a member of parliament during the 1990s.

Throughout his illustrious career, his presence became a defining part of Korean broadcast history, starring in more than 140 major television dramas in addition to numerous films and theatre productions.

Among his most iconic works, remembered by audiences across generations, are What Is Love? (1991), Men of the Bath House, and for younger viewers, the hit sitcoms High Kick! (2006) and High Kick Through the Roof (2009), where he transitioned seamlessly from stern fatherly roles to playful and comedic grandfather characters.

Unwavering Dedication

Even well into his late nineties, Lee Soon Jae remained passionate about acting. He continued working actively and even won the prestigious Daesang (Grand Prize) at the 2024 KBS Drama Awards for his performance in Dog Knows Everything, a testament to his unmatched commitment to the craft.

His passing marks not only the loss of a monumental figure in the industry, but also the departure of a mentor and respected guide to countless younger actors.
