Two National Guard members from West Virginia were on patrol in downtown Washington when the shooting took place.
The suspect, identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, was immediately apprehended following an exchange of gunfire with the guards. The weapon used was a .357 Magnum revolver. During the incident, the suspect reportedly attempted to take one of the victim’s firearms before being shot by the National Guard.
