SAR Efforts Intensified: Malaysian Reported Missing Following Landslide Tragedy in West Sumatra

Kuala Lumpur, El Sky News – All Malaysians are now anxiously awaiting the latest developments regarding the fate of a Malaysian citizen, Asrul Nizam Apridwson, 30, who has been confirmed missing and is believed to be affected by the landslide tragedy that struck the Padang Panjang area, West Sumatra, Indonesia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) has confirmed the incident and assured that all efforts are being intensified to locate the victim.

Cooperation Between the Consulate General and Indonesian Agencies

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Medan has been directed to work closely with the local Disaster Management Agency and Indonesian authorities to ensure that the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation can be carried out smoothly.

“We ask for prayers from all Malaysians so that the SAR efforts will yield results and the victim can be found safe. The Consulate General is monitoring the situation from time to time and will provide the necessary consular assistance to the victim’s family,” said a Wisma Putra spokesperson.

The disappearance of Asrul Nizam occurs amidst the monsoon crisis and natural disasters currently affecting several regions in Indonesia, making the search efforts more challenging due to unstable terrain conditions and unpredictable weather.

Safety Advisory for Malaysians Abroad

This incident also serves as an important reminder to all Malaysians residing or planning to travel to areas at high risk of natural disasters, especially during the monsoon season:

  • Register with the Embassy: Always register with the nearest Malaysian Embassy or Consulate General so that you can be easily contacted in case of an emergency.
  • Monitor Weather Warnings: Follow weather updates and safety instructions from local authorities.
  • Avoid High-Risk Areas: Limit travel to areas that have been declared high risk for floods or landslides.

Wisma Putra will continue to update the public on the latest developments. The victim’s family is currently receiving attention and support from the Embassy during this difficult time.
