EXO’s Chen’s Family Privacy Violated: Fans Strongly Insist ‘Please Respect Them!’

KUALA LUMPUR, El Sky News – The main vocalist of the popular K-pop group EXO, Chen (Kim Jong-dae), is once again the focus of the entertainment world as his family’s privacy has reportedly been violated and widely circulated on social media platforms recently.

Although Chen, 33, announced his marriage and the birth of his first child in early 2020, and is now a father of two daughters, he and his wife, Mihee, have worked hard to ensure their personal lives, especially their children’s, remain protected from public scrutiny.

Family Photos Leaked, Fans Act Swiftly

The uproar began when information and pictures linked to Chen’s wife, a non-celebrity, started going viral, including photos featuring their children. While some parties suggested Chen’s wife might have made her account public, the majority of the staunch fanbase, known as EXO-L, voiced their anger and disappointment over the dissemination of the photos.

EXO-L immediately took the initiative by launching a firm online campaign, calling for all parties to respect and value the privacy of Chen’s wife and children. The main sentiment being championed is the need to protect the identity of the innocent children from media exposure and baseless cyber-hatred.

“We plead, please respect their privacy. They are a family and the children should not be victims of unwanted attention,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).

Focus on Happiness After Delayed Reception

This development comes shortly after the couple successfully held a private wedding reception in October 2023, which had to be postponed for over three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Chen’s mandatory military service period.

The reception, attended by all EXO members and close friends from SM Entertainment, was seen as the closing of a challenging chapter and the opening of a new one for Chen and his wife. Although his marriage announcement previously caused a split among global fans, the vast majority of EXO-L now support Chen’s happiness as a husband and father.

The Boundary of K-Pop Artists and Private Life

The photo-sharing incident once again highlights the debate surrounding the boundaries of privacy in the K-pop industry, where an idol’s personal life is often expected to be fully “open” to the public. Fans argue that while Chen is a public figure, his non-celebrity family members deserve absolute protection and personal space.

It is hoped that all parties will act maturely and cease any efforts to circulate or seek out personal information about Chen’s family, in order to ensure they can enjoy a peaceful and happy life.
