Bersatu Youth Rejects New Political Coalitions, Urges Focus on Strengthening Perikatan Nasional

KUALA LUMPUR, El Sky News – The youth wing of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), known as Armada, has dismissed the need for a new political alliance following PAS’s proposal to revive Muafakat Nasional (MN). The wing emphasized that the current priority should be consolidating Perikatan Nasional (PN) as the nation’s primary opposition force.

Strengthening Perikatan Nasional

Armada Treasurer, Nor Zahid Rahim, stated that forming a new coalition at this stage is premature and could lead to further political instability. He argued that any broad political cooperation should be based on national stability rather than short-term tactical advantages.

“For us in the youth wing, this is not the right time to form a new alliance. It is still too early, and we have seen similar chapters unfold before. Our main focus right now is to strengthen PN as the leading platform for the opposition,” Nor Zahid said during a recent televised interview.

Internal Turmoil and Leadership Vacuum

The proposal comes at a sensitive time for the coalition following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as PN Chairman. Political analysts suggest that the lack of a clear successor more than 12 days after the announcement has created a sense of uncertainty within the bloc.

Hisommudin Bakar, Executive Director of the ILHAM Centre, warned that internal fractures within PN do not send a positive signal to voters. He noted that if the coalition intends to form a government after the 16th General Election (GE16), it must resolve its leadership crisis and present a united front.

Tensions Between PAS and Bersatu

The discourse also highlights growing friction between the two major components of PN. Analysts observed that PAS’s push to revive MN—a pact originally formed with UMNO—is seen by some as a move to exert pressure on Bersatu. Recent political developments, including disagreements over leadership roles in certain states, have further strained the partnership.

As the opposition navigates this transition period, the focus remains on whether PN can overcome its internal challenges or if the shift toward reviving old alliances will redefine the Malaysian political landscape ahead of the next general election.
