Tragic Collision: One Dead, Seven Injured in Bus and Multi-Lorry Crash on PLUS Highway

KUALA LUMPUR – A devastating accident involving an express bus and two lorries on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) early Thursday morning resulted in one fatality and left seven others injured.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call regarding the incident at KM 257.4 (Northbound) at approximately 2:40 AM. A rescue team from the Kuala Kangsar Fire Station, supported by the Meru Raya station, was immediately dispatched to the scene.

According to a department spokesperson, the collision involved an express bus carrying 22 passengers and two heavy lorries. The impact of the crash caused severe damage to the front of the bus, trapping the co-driver in his seat.

“Firefighters utilized specialized rescue tools to extricate the trapped victim. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old co-driver was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers,” the spokesperson stated.

Out of the 22 passengers on board, seven sustained various injuries and were given initial medical treatment at the site before being transported to the hospital. The remaining passengers and the drivers of the two lorries escaped the crash without physical injuries.

The operation concluded at approximately 5:30 AM after the wreckage was cleared to ensure the safety of other highway users. Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, including potential weather conditions or mechanical failure.
