Unidentified Man Found Dead in Aircraft Wheel Well at KLIA Terminal 2

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Malaysian authorities are investigating the discovery of an unidentified man’s body inside the wheel well of an aircraft at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA Terminal 2) on Thursday morning.

KLIA District Police Chief ACP M. Ravi said police received information about the discovery from the Airport Operations Control Centre at around 7am. The aircraft had reportedly arrived from Tokyo, Japan, at approximately 6.30am.

The body was discovered at about 6.55am when engineering personnel assigned to inspect or open the aircraft’s wheel-well compartment noticed a foul smell coming from the area.

When the right-side wheel storage compartment was opened, the individual was found lying face down and was already dead.

Authorities subsequently alerted police at KLIA Terminal 2, prompting forensic personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police to attend the scene and begin an examination.

According to police, the man was estimated to be between 17 and 25 years old based on his physical appearance.

No identification documents were recovered from his body, meaning his identity had not been established at the time of the police statement.

The victim was wearing a white hoodie featuring a dragon image on the back and the word “Oakley” on the front, along with light blue jeans, a brown leather belt, socks and black sports shoes.

Police said an initial physical examination found no visible injuries on the body.

Preliminary findings indicated that the individual may have been dead for more than 72 hours before being discovered.

Bernama initially reported that forensic investigators believed the victim was in his 20s and had been dead for more than three days.

The state of decomposition and the circumstances surrounding the discovery are expected to form part of the continuing forensic investigation.

The remains were transported to the Forensic Department at Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The autopsy is expected to help investigators determine the medical cause of death and potentially provide further clues that could assist in identifying the victim.

At this stage, authorities have not publicly established how or where the man entered the aircraft’s wheel-well compartment.

Police are currently investigating the case under Sudden Death Report (SDR) procedures.

This means authorities have not, based on the information released so far, classified the discovery as a criminal homicide case.

Investigators will need to establish the man’s identity, his movements before death, how he gained access to the aircraft and whether he entered the wheel well before the aircraft departed for Malaysia or at an earlier point in its journey.

Police have urged members of the public to avoid speculation while investigations remain ongoing.

Anyone with information that could assist in identifying the deceased or establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident has been asked to contact the KLIA District Police Headquarters.

The case has attracted attention because aircraft wheel wells are highly restricted and extremely hazardous areas, particularly during flight.

For now, authorities have not announced any conclusion regarding how the victim reached the compartment or exactly when he died.

The immediate priorities for investigators are expected to include identifying the victim and establishing a timeline before the aircraft arrived at KLIA Terminal 2.

Forensic findings, airport security information and the aircraft’s movements may assist police in reconstructing the circumstances surrounding the death.

Until the post-mortem and investigation are completed, authorities have not attributed the death to any specific cause or criminal act.
