Man Detained After Pregnant Wife Found Dead in Kota Tinggi Home

KUALA LUMPUR – A tragic incident has shaken the quiet neighborhood of Kampung Makam in Kota Tinggi after a seven-month-pregnant foreign national was discovered dead in her rented home on Friday morning.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was found lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries. Authorities believe the fatal wounds were inflicted by a blunt object.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief, Superintendent Yusof Othman, confirmed that the department received a public tip-off regarding an unconscious woman at approximately 7:42 AM.

“Following the report, a specialized team from the Criminal Investigation Division was dispatched to the scene to verify the situation,” Supt Yusof stated. Medical officers from Kota Tinggi Hospital later confirmed the victim’s passing at the location.

Upon further investigation, forensic officers from the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters (D10) recovered a stone mortar at the residence. Investigators suspect the kitchen tool was used as the primary weapon in the assault.

The victim’s husband, a foreign national in his 30s who was present at the scene, was immediately taken into custody. Police are currently treating him as the prime suspect.

While the exact cause of death is pending a post-mortem examination at the Sultan Ismail Hospital Forensic Department, preliminary investigations suggest that jealousy may have been the underlying motive for the brutal attack.

“We are not ruling out jealousy as a factor,” Supt Yusof added. The police are expected to file a seven-day remand application against the suspect at the Kota Tinggi Magistrate’s Court on Saturday.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. If convicted, the suspect faces the death penalty or a prison sentence of 30 to 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
