Violence Erupts Across Mexico After Death of Notorious Cartel Boss

Kuala Lumpur,Mexican security forces have killed Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the most wanted leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), during a major operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco state. The military raid marked a significant blow against one of Mexico’s most dangerous drug trafficking organizations.

El Mencho, 59, died from injuries sustained during the clash with federal forces, which also saw at least six armed accomplices killed. The operation was part of an ongoing effort by Mexican authorities, supported by U.S. intelligence, to dismantle the CJNG’s leadership and curb its widespread criminal influence.

However, his death immediately triggered widespread violence and chaos across several states. Cartel gunmen responded with road blockades, arson attacks, explosions, and shootouts, setting fire to vehicles and staging violent reprisals in places including Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Colima, Tamaulipas, and Nayarit.

The clashes have led to dozens of casualties among cartel members and security forces, and at least one civilian death has been reported so far. Many schools and businesses temporarily suspended operations, and foreign governments issued safety warnings for their citizens in affected regions.

Authorities are now working to restore order amid concerns that the cartel’s power vacuum could lead to further instability and a protracted struggle for dominance among rival criminal factions.
