Amira Aisya Elected as MUDA’s New President, Pledges to Champion People’s Rights

KUALA LUMPUR – In a historic milestone for Malaysia’s youth-centric political party, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) has officially appointed Amira Aisya Abd Aziz as its President for the 2026-2029 term. The decision was finalized during the party’s inaugural internal elections, held concurrently with its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday.

Amira Aisya, the 31-year-old State Assemblywoman (ADUN) for Puteri Wangsa, secured her leadership mandate after receiving 103 votes. This result placed her within the top 25 candidates out of a field of 31 contenders for the Central Executive Committee (JKEP).

Transition of Leadership

The appointment marks a formal end to the party’s interim leadership phase. Amira had been serving as the Acting President since November 9, 2023, following the resignation of the party’s founder and Member of Parliament for Muar, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

In her first press conference as the elected President, Amira expressed confidence in the newly formed committee, emphasizing a vision rooted in service. “I believe all 25 JKEP members given this mandate have their own visions and missions. I am confident that if they continue the work promised in their manifestos, MUDA will progress significantly between 2026 and 2029,” she stated.

A People-Centric Agenda

Amira’s victory speech was underscored by a plea for support and a commitment to social justice. She urged party delegates and the public to hold the leadership accountable to the needs of the marginalized.

“I ask for prayers from all fellow delegates so that we may carry out our duties well. Pray that we continue to raise the voices of the people, and that we never forget those who are suffering, ill, or hungry,” Amira said. She added that her ultimate goal is to help “shape a Malaysia where every citizen can live with dignity.”

The New Leadership Lineup

The election results also introduced a fresh slate of executive members to steer the party’s direction. Zaidel Baharuddin has been appointed as the Deputy President, while the Vice Presidency is shared among five individuals: Leben Siddarth, Faezrah Rizalman, Zairul Afiq, Dobby Chew, and Dr. Siva.

To ensure smooth operations and communication, Ainie Haziqah has been named the Secretary-General, with Rasid Abu Bakar taking on the role of Information Chief. The remaining positions, including the General Treasurer and five additional committee appointments under the President’s discretionary power, are expected to be announced following the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.
