Netanyahu Coffee Shop Video Sparks AI Debate and Fuels Death Rumors Online

Kuala Lumpur— A viral video showing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu drinking coffee at a café has triggered a wave of online speculation, with some social media users claiming the footage was generated using artificial intelligence. The controversy intensified after an AI chatbot suggested the video might be a deepfake, fueling rumors about the Israeli leader’s alleged death.

The short clip, shared on the prime minister’s official social media accounts, shows Netanyahu casually sitting at a café while addressing rumors circulating online. During the video, he jokes about the claims and remarks that he is “crazy about coffee,” while also expressing his love for the Israeli people.

Viral Claims and AI Deepfake Allegations

The video was intended to dismiss conspiracy theories suggesting Netanyahu had been killed during the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. However, instead of ending the speculation, the clip sparked a new debate after users pointed to visual inconsistencies and suggested it might have been digitally altered.

An AI chatbot known as Grok, developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, reportedly analyzed the video and suggested it appeared to be “100% AI-generated,” prompting further discussion across social media platforms. The claim quickly spread online, reigniting rumors about Netanyahu’s safety and authenticity.

Some internet users also referenced earlier footage in which Netanyahu appeared to have six fingers due to a camera angle, leading to speculation that AI manipulation was involved. Fact-checkers later said the effect was likely an optical illusion rather than evidence of digital fabrication.

Netanyahu Responds to Online Speculation

In the video, Netanyahu mocked the rumors and held up his hands to show that he has five fingers on each, dismissing the bizarre conspiracy theories circulating online. He also used the moment to comment on Israel’s ongoing military operations and urged citizens to follow safety instructions from authorities during the ongoing conflict.

Despite the controversy, international media reports confirmed the video was filmed at a café near Jerusalem, and journalists verified the location and timing of the footage.

Misinformation in the Age of AI

The incident highlights growing concerns about misinformation and the role of artificial intelligence in modern information warfare. With AI-generated videos and deepfakes becoming more sophisticated, experts warn that distinguishing real footage from manipulated content is becoming increasingly difficult—especially during times of geopolitical tension.

While rumors about Netanyahu’s death continue to circulate on social media, verified reports indicate the Israeli prime minister remains active in government operations and public communications during the ongoing regional conflict.
