Lorry Driver Killed After Vehicle Plunges Into Ditch in Kuala Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR – A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 38-year-old lorry driver early Tuesday morning after his vehicle veered off the road and overturned into a ditch at the Simpang Jalan Suara junction in Kampung Tambak Jawa.

The victim, identified as Taqiuddin Jamil, was reportedly transporting goods in a three-tonne commercial lorry when the incident occurred at approximately 6:32 AM. Preliminary reports suggest the driver lost control of the heavy vehicle, causing it to skid and flip into a roadside drainage trench.

Intense Two-Hour Rescue Operation

According to Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, the Assistant Director of Operations for the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call was placed immediately following the crash. A specialized rescue team from the Kuala Selangor Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched, arriving at the scene at 6:54 AM.

Upon arrival, rescuers discovered the lorry resting on its roof within the ditch. The impact of the crash had severely crushed the cabin, leaving Taqiuddin pinned firmly within the driver’s seat.

“The rescue team had to work cautiously due to the position of the overturned vehicle and the extent of the cabin damage,” Ahmad Mukhlis stated in an official press release today. Firefighters utilized specialized hydraulic equipment, including a rescue cutter, to navigate the mangled metal and create enough space to extricate the victim.

Victim Pronounced Dead at the Scene

Despite the rapid response and the intensive efforts of the fire and rescue personnel, the victim was only successfully extricated from the wreckage at 8:50 AM—nearly two hours after the team arrived.

Medical officers from the Ministry of Health (MOH), who were stationed at the site to provide emergency support, conducted an immediate assessment upon his release. Sadly, they confirmed that Taqiuddin had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ongoing Investigation and Site Clearance

Following the recovery, the victim’s remains were handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for transportation to the nearest hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police have since opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, looking into factors such as mechanical failure, road conditions, or potential driver fatigue.

While the investigation was underway, firefighters remained on-site to conduct thorough cleaning operations. This involved removing debris and ensuring there were no hazardous fuel or oil leaks that could endanger other motorists traveling through the Kampung Tambak Jawa area.

Local authorities have advised road users to remain vigilant and exercise caution, especially during early morning hours when visibility and road conditions may be less than ideal.
