Melaka Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh Strengthens People-Centric Governance Through MeSRa Initiatives

Kuala Lumpur — Ab Rauf Yusoh continues to reinforce his administration’s people-first approach through a series of community-driven initiatives, with a strong focus on welfare, unity, and grassroots engagement.

During the holy month of Ramadan, the Melaka Chief Minister has intensified outreach efforts by participating in various community programs, including an Iftar gathering and the Festival Kuih Tradisional Negeri Melaka 2026 held at the Dataran Memorial Pengisytiharan Kemerdekaan.

Strengthening Unity Through Cultural and Community Events

The Ramadan featured more than 20 types of traditional Malay delicacies and a large-scale gotong-royong activity involving the simultaneous preparation of 30 cauldrons of dodol—symbolizing unity and cooperation among the people of Melaka.

According to Ab Rauf, such initiatives go beyond festive celebrations and serve as a platform to strengthen social cohesion.

“These programs are not merely about enlivening Ramadan, but about building unity among the people. The Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) principle is not just a slogan—it is a commitment to prioritizing the welfare and well-being of our citizens,” he said.

MeSRa: A Core Policy for People-Centric Development

At the heart of his administration lies the Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) initiative, which emphasizes inclusive development and direct engagement with the rakyat.

Since taking office in March 2023, Ab Rauf has introduced more than 60 people-oriented initiatives aimed at improving public services and accelerating development in key sectors such as tourism, investment, and infrastructure.

These initiatives are designed to ensure that the benefits of economic growth are felt directly by communities across the state.

HEBAT Programme Enhances Government Accessibility

The Hari Exco Bertemu Rakyat (HEBAT) programme has emerged as a key platform under Ab Rauf’s leadership, enabling citizens to directly voice concerns and seek solutions from the state government.

The strong public response to multiple editions of the programme reflects growing confidence in the current administration.

“We are creating multiple channels for the people to reach the government and for the government to reach the people. Every issue raised will be addressed with care and efficiency,” he said after attending HEBAT Series 1/2026.

WRUR and Welfare Assistance Drive Social Impact

Another flagship initiative, Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR), has facilitated over 100 community-focused activities since its launch in 2023. These include:

• Social assistance programs
• Educational initiatives
• Infrastructure improvements
• Direct engagement sessions with local communities

In addition, the state government has consistently rolled out Aidilfitri assistance programs (2024–2025) to support low-income families, helping to ease financial burdens during festive seasons.

Leadership Background and Political Role

Ab Rauf Yusoh, born on September 20, 1961, currently serves as the 13th Chief Minister of Melaka and State Assemblyman for Tanjung Bidara. He is also a senior leader within the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and plays a key role in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.

His leadership marks a continuation of BN’s governance in Melaka, with a renewed emphasis on inclusivity and grassroots development.
