KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 — A new electrified sport utility vehicle could soon arrive in Malaysia after Seres Malaysia teased the upcoming Seres E5 Plus, a seven-seater plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) designed to combine electric driving capability with extended range from a petrol engine.
The teaser was recently shared on the brand’s social media platforms, sparking speculation that the model may soon make its official debut in the Malaysian market as part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the country’s rapidly expanding electrified vehicle segment.
The Seres E5 Plus is also known internationally as the Landian or DFSK E5 Plus, and it is related to the Aito M7 model, although the E5 Plus version does not include Huawei’s advanced smart-vehicle technologies that are featured in the Aito lineup.
Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain and Long Driving Range
One of the key highlights of the E5 Plus is its plug-in hybrid system, which allows the vehicle to operate both as a fully electric car for shorter journeys and as a hybrid vehicle for longer trips.
According to information from the Chinese-market model, the latest version of the E5 Plus offers an electric-only driving range of up to 230 kilometres based on the CLTC testing cycle, a significant improvement over earlier versions of the vehicle.
When combined with its petrol engine and hybrid system, the SUV is capable of achieving a total driving range of approximately 1,200 kilometres, giving drivers the flexibility of long-distance travel without relying entirely on charging infrastructure.
The vehicle uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 95 PS, which acts primarily as a generator to power an electric motor. The electric motor itself delivers 218 PS and 330 Nm of torque, providing the main driving force for the wheels.
Performance figures suggest the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 7.8 seconds, while the top speed is estimated at 180 km/h.
Large SUV With Seven Seats
In terms of size, the Seres E5 Plus is positioned as a mid-size family SUV with three rows of seats. The vehicle measures 4,760 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,710 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm.
These dimensions place it close to other mid-size SUVs in the market and suggest that it could compete with models in the growing three-row SUV category popular among families in Malaysia.
The interior is expected to feature a range of modern technologies, including a 15.6-inch central touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, giving the cabin a modern and tech-focused layout.
For practicality, the SUV also offers a 760-litre luggage capacity with the third-row seats folded, which can be expanded further to 1,694 litres when additional seats are lowered.
The suspension system reportedly includes multi-link rear suspension and frequency-selective damping, which are designed to improve ride comfort and stability for passengers.
Potential Expansion of Seres in Malaysia
Industry observers say the introduction of the E5 Plus could represent a shift in strategy for Seres Malaysia. Previously, the brand operated as a relatively low-volume player in the Malaysian automotive market, offering limited models and sales numbers.
However, the teaser of a larger and more family-oriented SUV suggests that the company may now be targeting a broader audience as demand for hybrid and electric vehicles continues to grow across the region.
Malaysia’s automotive industry has seen increasing interest in plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles, driven by government incentives, improved charging infrastructure, and rising consumer awareness of sustainable mobility.
If launched locally, the Seres E5 Plus would enter a competitive segment that includes other electrified SUVs from both Chinese and global manufacturers seeking to capture the expanding Southeast Asian EV market.
For now, Seres Malaysia has yet to confirm the official launch date or pricing for the E5 Plus, but the teaser indicates that the model could soon join the country’s growing lineup of electrified SUVs designed for family use and long-distance travel.
