Red Honda Civic Chase at KLIA Ends With Arrest of Local Man With 31 Criminal Records

SEPANG, March 31 — A high‑speed police chase involving a red Honda Civic at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) came to a dramatic end today after officers arrested a local man with an extensive criminal history, authorities said.

The pursuit began when airport police spotted the red Honda Civic weaving through traffic and committing multiple traffic offences within the vicinity of KLIA’s access routes. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply and accelerated away, triggering a pursuit by law enforcement.

According to the police, the chase extended over several kilometres, with the driver making dangerous manoeuvres that posed a threat to other road users. The pursuit drew quick attention from ground units, including regular patrol cars and airport security personnel, who coordinated to contain the situation and prevent injuries to the public.

Police eventually cornered the vehicle near a paved service road adjacent to the airport perimeter. After a tense standoff, the driver was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported among police officers or nearby civilians during the pursuit.

Authorities later identified the suspect as a local man in his 30s, who was found to have 31 previous criminal records under his name, including multiple traffic and public order offences. Police said the suspect was also carrying a valid driver’s licence at the time of the incident, but his failure to stop for officers triggered the chase.

In an official statement, members of the Royal Malaysia Police described the arrest as a success following a coordinated effort by multiple units. The suspect is expected to face several charges, including resisting arrest, reckless driving, and endangering public safety. Further investigations are underway to determine whether additional offences may be filed.

Traffic conditions around KLIA were temporarily disrupted as officers blocked several lanes to safely conduct the pursuit and arrest. Airport authorities urged motorists heading to and from the international terminal to use alternative routes during peak hours to avoid delays.

Law enforcement officials reminded members of the public that police pursuits are conducted only when necessary and with public safety as a priority. They emphasized that motorists must comply with lawful police instructions to prevent escalation and potential harm.

The arrest at KLIA marks another example of the police’s efforts to curb repeat offenders and maintain road safety in high‑traffic areas. The extensive criminal history of the suspect highlights ongoing challenges in addressing recidivism and enforcing traffic laws in Malaysia.
