Five Injured, Including Two Children, in Crash Outside School in Kampar

KAMPAR, April 2 — Five individuals, including two children, were injured in a road accident involving several vehicles outside a school in Kampar, Perak, prompting police to clarify that the crash was not caused by a drunk driver as initially speculated online.

The accident occurred at about 6:42 pm along Jalan Kuala Dipang–Malim Nawar, near Sekolah Kebangsaan Tualang Sekah, when parents were arriving to pick up their children after the afternoon school session.

According to authorities, the incident involved five cars and a motorcycle, creating a chain collision that left several people injured. The vehicles involved included models such as Perodua Viva, Proton Satria, Proton Saga, Perodua Axia, and Perodua Bezza, along with a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the accident began when a Perodua Viva driven by a woman carrying two children exited from the roadside shoulder and attempted to enter the main road. At that moment, the car was struck by a Proton Satria approaching from the opposite direction, causing the Viva to overturn due to the force of the impact.

Following the initial collision, the Proton Satria reportedly continued forward and hit a female motorcyclist, throwing her onto the road. The impact also caused other nearby vehicles to become involved, resulting in a multi-vehicle crash that unfolded within seconds.

Emergency responders and local authorities quickly arrived at the scene after receiving reports from witnesses and passing motorists. Several injured victims were given immediate assistance before being transported to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, although multiple victims sustained injuries of varying severity.

Kampar District Police Chief Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud confirmed that early checks found no evidence indicating that the driver involved was under the influence of alcohol, contrary to claims circulating widely on social media. Officers at the scene did not detect any smell of alcohol from the driver’s breath, and his behaviour did not indicate intoxication.

However, police emphasised that standard investigation procedures are still being carried out. This includes urine tests and blood alcohol examinations to ensure a thorough assessment of the driver’s condition at the time of the accident.

Authorities have opened an investigation under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which relates to careless or inconsiderate driving. Police also urged the public to avoid spreading speculation or unverified claims about the incident while the investigation remains ongoing.

Traffic in the area was temporarily slowed as emergency services cleared debris from the road and assisted victims. The accident site, located directly in front of a school, drew concern among parents and residents about road safety during busy school pick-up hours.

Local authorities have since reminded motorists to exercise caution when driving near schools, particularly during peak times when pedestrians, parents, and children are present. Police also stressed the importance of using proper entry points when exiting roadside areas to prevent sudden collisions with oncoming vehicles.

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with heavy traffic near schools and the need for drivers to remain alert and patient when navigating such areas. Investigations into the accident are ongoing as authorities continue to gather statements from drivers and witnesses.
