Temporary Diversion On Gua Musang-Lojing Road To Reopen Thursday After Landslide Closure

KUALA LUMPUR,MAY,2026 – A temporary diversion on the Gua Musang-Lojing road is expected to reopen to motorists on Thursday, May 21, reconnecting an important route that has been closed for more than five months following a landslide. New Straits Times reported that the temporary diversion will open after the road had been closed since December 3, 2025 due to the landslide.

The reopening is expected to bring major relief to road users, especially residents, traders and travellers who depend on the route linking Gua Musang, Lojing and Cameron Highlands. The road is also i

The affected route was previously closed after a landslide occurred at Section 107.6 of Route FT185, Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang, near Pos Blau. The closure was imposed for safety reasons after inspections found that the damaged slope and road section posed risks to motorists.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi had earlier said a temporary road diversion would be built first so that the route could be reopened while slope repair works continued. He also said the Public Works Department’s Slope Engineering Branch would be responsible for planning, managing and supervising the maintenance works at the affected slope.

The road had been fully closed to all vehicles after the landslide, forcing motorists to use longer alternative routes. Road users heading from Gua Musang to Cameron Highlands were previously advised to use the Sungai Koyan-Ringlet-Cameron Highlands route, while those travelling towards Ipoh could use the Gua Musang-Sungai Koyan-Ringlet-Tapah-Ipoh route.

The temporary diversion is therefore seen as an important short-term solution to restore traffic movement while more permanent repair works are carried out. Although the reopening will improve access, motorists are still expected to drive carefully and follow all safety instructions along the affected stretch.

The landslide had caused major inconvenience for road users for several months, especially those travelling for work, business, education, tourism and daily needs. For residents in nearby areas, the closure also affected travel time and access to essential services.

The Gua Musang-Lojing road is widely used by motorists travelling between Kelantan and the highland areas of Pahang. It is also a key route for agricultural activities, local trade and tourism, particularly for those heading to Cameron Highlands.

While the temporary diversion will allow vehicles to pass through the area again, authorities are expected to continue monitoring slope conditions to ensure the route remains safe. Hilly and highland roads are more vulnerable to landslides, especially during periods of heavy rain or underground water movement.

The reopening also highlights the importance of long-term slope maintenance and road safety works in high-risk areas. Past reports said repair works on the affected slope were expected to begin in March, with the temporary diversion built first to allow traffic to resume before full repair works are completed.

Motorists planning to use the route are advised to check the latest updates from JKR and local authorities before travelling. They should also reduce speed near the diversion area, obey road signs and avoid stopping near unstable slopes.

Overall, the reopening of the temporary diversion on the Gua Musang-Lojing road marks a positive development after months of disruption. However, the route remains a safety-sensitive area, and continued monitoring will be important until permanent repair works are fully completed.
