Shah Alam Fertilizer and Engine Oil Facility 90% Destroyed in Overnight Fire

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — A fertilizer processing facility that was also used to store vehicle engine oil was extensively damaged in a fire along Jalan Bukit Cherakah, Section U9, Shah Alam, near Monterez Golf Club on Wednesday night.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said approximately 90% of the premises was destroyed by the blaze. The building, measuring about 40 feet by 100 feet, was classified as a Class B structure and was being used for fertilizer processing and engine oil storage.

Despite the scale of the damage, authorities confirmed that no fatalities or injuries were recorded. The cause of the fire and the total value of losses remain under investigation.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said firefighters received the emergency call at 10.49pm. The first fire engine from the Bukit Jelutong Fire and Rescue Station reached the scene about 10 minutes later.

A total of 25 officers and firefighters were deployed from four fire stations — Bukit Jelutong, Sungai Buloh, Shah Alam and Klang Utara — as authorities worked to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding areas.

The operation was reinforced by 22 members from four volunteer fire brigades, bringing the overall firefighting response to 47 personnel. The volunteer teams came from Saujana Utama, Rantau Panjang, Klang’s Briged Amal Kampung Delek and Serdang.

Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control at approximately 11.23pm, around half an hour after the emergency call was received.

The fire was eventually fully extinguished at 1.25am on Thursday, after which rescue personnel carried out overhaul operations to identify and eliminate any remaining embers that could potentially reignite the premises.

Authorities have yet to determine what triggered the fire.

Investigators are also assessing the financial losses resulting from the destruction of the facility and its contents. No estimate had been released at the time of the initial report.

The absence of casualties was a significant outcome given that the fire affected a facility containing fertilizer-processing operations and stored vehicle engine oil.

The Fire and Rescue Department’s rapid deployment, supported by volunteer brigades from surrounding areas, helped prevent further escalation before the blaze was completely extinguished in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Investigations into both the cause of the fire and total losses are continuing.
