Contract Worker Dies After Falling Into Water Storage Tank at Kuala Langat Power Plant

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — A contract worker died after falling into a water storage tank at the Kuala Langat Power Plant while carrying out maintenance work on Sunday night.

The victim, identified as Farhan Syazwan, 34, was performing maintenance work with a colleague to replace wood at a cooling tower when the incident occurred.

According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, the victim’s colleague temporarily left the area to collect wood. When he returned about 15 minutes later, Farhan was no longer at the site. After initially assuming he had gone to the toilet, the colleague became concerned when he failed to return.

The matter was reported to a supervisor, and checks later indicated that the victim may have fallen into one of the water storage tanks. Firefighters received the emergency call at 7.26pm, while a team from the Banting Fire and Rescue Station arrived at 7.49pm.

A total of 12 firefighters, including members of the Water Rescue Team from KLIA and Port Klang fire stations, were involved in the search and rescue operation. The first pool was drained, but the victim was not found.

Rescuers then drained a second pool using a Hydrosub unit. The victim was eventually located at around 4am inside the approximately 10-metre-deep tank.

Firefighters entered the tank and brought the victim to the surface, where he was confirmed dead. His body was later handed over to police for further action.
