Raul Fernandez Dominates Silverstone for First MotoGP Win of 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Raul Fernandez produced a dominant performance at the British Grand Prix to secure his first MotoGP victory of the 2026 season and the second premier-class Grand Prix win of his career.

Starting from second on the grid, the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP rider made a perfect launch and took the holeshot into Turn 1 ahead of Marco Bezzecchi. From there, Fernandez controlled the race and never surrendered the lead.

By the third lap, the Spaniard had already set a new race lap record and built an advantage of around two seconds over the chasing group, establishing the pace that would ultimately prove too strong for his rivals.

Behind him, the battle for the podium intensified as polesitter Jorge Martin worked his way forward after being drawn into early fights with Ai Ogura and other front-running riders.

Marc Marquez also made early progress, moving into third position on the opening lap before Martin responded and reclaimed ground.

The race featured several crashes as riders pushed for position around the fast Silverstone layout.

Enea Bastianini crashed at Turn 17, Iker Lecuona fell at Turn 12 and Cal Crutchlow went down at Turn 6 during a difficult sequence across laps six and seven.

Francesco Bagnaia then crashed at Turn 7 on lap eight, ending his hopes of scoring a strong result.

One lap later, Ogura’s race also came to an end when the Japanese rider crashed at Turn 16. The incident proved costly in championship terms as he missed an opportunity to strengthen his position near the top of the standings.

Alex Marquez briefly climbed into third place but made a mistake at Turn 1, dropping back to fifth before recovering to fourth.

At the front, Fernandez continued to manage the race comfortably, maintaining an advantage of more than four seconds as the final five laps approached.

Martin gradually reduced the gap during the closing stages, bringing Fernandez’s advantage down to 3.4 seconds with four laps remaining and then 3.1 seconds a lap later.

However, Fernandez had enough pace in reserve to remain firmly in control.

Further behind, Fabio Di Giannantonio passed reigning world champion Marc Marquez at Turn 3 on lap 18 as the Italian continued a late charge through the field.

Fernandez ultimately crossed the line 2.5 seconds ahead of Martin to secure victory.

The result made him the 12th different winner in the last 12 British Grands Prix held at Silverstone, continuing the circuit’s remarkable run of different MotoGP race winners.

Martin finished second and strengthened his position at the top of the championship standings, while Bezzecchi claimed third place to complete an all-Aprilia podium.

The result increased Martin’s championship advantage over Bezzecchi to 31 points.

Alex Marquez was the highest-finishing Ducati rider in fourth, followed by Pedro Acosta in fifth and Di Giannantonio in sixth.

Marc Marquez had to settle for seventh and now trails Martin by 40 points in the championship battle.

Brad Binder finished eighth, recording his first back-to-back top-10 results of the season, while Luca Marini was the leading Honda rider in ninth.

Diogo Moreira completed the top 10.

Fernandez’s victory also completed an impressive recovery after disappointment during Saturday’s action and gave Trackhouse its biggest result of the season.

The second half of the 2026 championship has now begun with 10 rounds remaining, and the title battle remains closely contested despite Martin extending his advantage at Silverstone.

With three Aprilia riders occupying the top three positions in the championship standings after the British Grand Prix, the manufacturer has emerged as a major force in this year’s title fight.
