KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — PAS has confirmed that leaders from UMNO will be invited to attend the party’s 72nd annual Muktamar, scheduled to take place in Kelantan from September 2 to 5, 2026.
PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the invitation reflects the party’s view of UMNO as a political cooperation partner. Invitations will also be extended to leaders of UMNO’s various wings.
Takiyuddin said an official invitation letter would be sent to the UMNO secretary-general, with the number and level of leaders attending to be determined by the party itself. UMNO could choose to send its president, deputy president, vice-presidents, secretary-general or other senior representatives.
He made the remarks after chairing the main committee meeting for the 72nd PAS Annual Muktamar at the Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan (PUTIK).
Apart from UMNO, PAS also plans to invite leaders from other political parties, particularly those within Perikatan Nasional (PN), as well as members of Parliament.
Takiyuddin explained that the formal invitation to UMNO had not yet been sent because preparations for the Muktamar were still ongoing, with around 20 days remaining before the party’s internal deadline.
Meanwhile, PAS is still receiving motions from its divisions and state-level wings for consideration at the central Muktamar. Some divisions have yet to complete their annual meetings after earlier postponements linked to election activities.
Takiyuddin also confirmed that this year’s Muktamar will not involve party leadership elections, as 2026 is not an election year for PAS. The gathering will therefore focus on the party’s annual proceedings, policy discussions and organisational matters.
