2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe Debuts as All-Electric EV With Up to 1,169 PS and 700 km Range

KUALA LUMPUR,MAY,2026 – Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled the second-generation GT 4-Door Coupe, marking a major turning point for the high-performance model as it moves from petrol power to a fully electric drivetrain. The new model replaces the original AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, which first made its debut more than eight years ago, and is now built on Mercedes-AMG’s dedicated AMG.EA electric performance architecture.

The latest Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will be offered in two variants, the GT55 and the more powerful GT63. Both versions use a trio of axial flux electric motors developed by Yasa, the British electric motor specialist that became a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz AG in 2021.

This change makes the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupe one of the most important electric models in Mercedes-AMG’s history. Instead of simply converting an existing combustion model into an EV, Mercedes-AMG has developed the car around a performance-focused electric platform designed to deliver high power, sustained output and fast charging capability. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia describes AMG.EA as the future foundation for electric AMG vehicles, with axial flux motors designed to deliver high power and torque density for EVs.

The use of axial flux motors is one of the biggest technical highlights of the new model. Compared with conventional radial flux electric motors, axial flux motors are more compact and are designed to deliver stronger sustained power and higher torque. In the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, the rear axle uses two electric motors, while the front axle uses one motor that can act as a booster when additional power or traction is required.

In the Mercedes-AMG GT55, the electric powertrain produces a peak system output of 816 PS and 1,800 Nm of torque. With AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive, the GT55 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, while 0-200 km/h takes 6.2 seconds. Its top speed is rated at 300 km/h with the optional Driver’s Package.

The range-topping Mercedes-AMG GT63 pushes performance even further with a peak output of 1,169 PS and 2,000 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful road-going Mercedes-AMG model so far. The GT63 can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2.4 seconds and reach 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, while its top speed is also rated at 300 km/h with the optional package.

Mercedes-AMG says the highest power figures are available when the car is placed in AMG Launch Control mode. Drivers can also activate temporary boost power by pulling both steering-wheel paddles in Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes. The GT63 can receive up to 150 PS of additional boost for up to 63 seconds, while the GT55 can receive up to 68 PS for up to 55 seconds.

Both variants are built around an 800-volt electrical system and use the new AMG High Performance Electric Battery. The battery system was developed using knowledge from the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar and Formula One technology, showing how Mercedes-AMG is transferring motorsport experience into its next generation of road cars.

The battery pack has a total capacity of 106 kWh and uses 2,660 cylindrical cells grouped into 18 modules. The cells use NCMA chemistry and are directly cooled to support repeated high-performance driving. This is important because AMG is aiming not only for short acceleration bursts, but also consistent performance during demanding driving conditions.

In terms of driving range, the GT55 is claimed to deliver between 597 km and 700 km on the WLTP cycle, while the more powerful GT63 offers between 596 km and 696 km. These figures place the new GT 4-Door Coupe among the longer-range electric performance cars in the luxury EV segment.

Charging performance is also a major part of the new AMG package. The car supports up to 600 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in around 11 minutes when connected to a suitable charger. Mercedes-AMG also claims that up to 460 km of range can be recovered in the first 10 minutes of charging.

The model’s AC charging rate is limited to 11 kW, but its DC fast-charging capability is one of the strongest figures announced for a production electric car. Electrive also reported that orders for the new high-performance model are expected to open soon, initially with the GT63 and GT55 variants.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is also designed with advanced chassis technology to support its high output. It comes with multi-link suspension at the front and rear, AMG Active Ride Control air suspension, semi-active roll stabilisation and rear-wheel steering of up to six degrees at speeds of up to 80 km/h.

Its body measures 5,094 mm long, 1,959 mm wide and 1,411 mm tall, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase. Despite its large size and electric hardware, Mercedes-AMG has focused on making the car feel agile through rear-wheel steering, adaptive suspension and advanced torque control.

Design-wise, the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupe carries strong influence from the Concept AMG GT XX. It features a fastback profile, low bonnet, raked windscreen, flush door handles, circular rear lights, active rear diffuser and a bold front grille with an illuminated outline.

Aerodynamics also play a major role in the new model. The car uses active venturi flow plates in the underbody, an active rear diffuser, an extendable rear spoiler and an Airpanel air-management system to control airflow depending on cooling and downforce requirements.

Inside, the new GT 4-Door Coupe features a driver-focused cabin with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch central infotainment touchscreen and a 14-inch front passenger display. The centre console also includes the AMG Race Engineer Control Unit, which uses three haptic rotary controls for driving dynamics settings.

The infotainment system runs on Mercedes-Benz’s latest MBUX system with MB.OS, offering configurable displays, AI assistants and AMG-specific performance functions. This positions the new GT 4-Door Coupe not only as a performance EV, but also as a software-heavy luxury performance car.

To preserve some of AMG’s traditional emotional appeal, the car also includes adjustable sound characteristics inside the cabin. Drivers can select different sound profiles such as Powerful, Balanced and Minimal, while AMGForce S+ mode uses more than 1,600 sound files to recreate a V8-inspired driving sound experience.

This feature is likely aimed at long-time AMG fans who may still associate the brand with loud V8 engines. While the new model no longer uses an internal combustion engine, Mercedes-AMG is clearly trying to keep the character of its performance cars alive through sound design, acceleration response and chassis behaviour.

The launch of the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe shows how the performance luxury segment is changing. Brands such as Mercedes-AMG are no longer treating electric vehicles only as efficiency-focused models. Instead, EV platforms are now being used to create extremely powerful performance cars with instant torque, long range and ultra-fast charging.

For Mercedes-AMG, this model is more than just a new car. It represents the brand’s shift into a fully electric performance era, where technology, software, battery cooling, charging speed and aerodynamics become just as important as engine displacement once was.

Overall, the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is a major statement from Affalterbach. With up to 1,169 PS, 2,000 Nm of torque, a 0-100 km/h time of 2.4 seconds, up to 700 km of WLTP range and 600 kW charging capability, it is positioned as one of the most advanced electric performance sedans in the world.
