Teacher Remanded Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct Involving Secondary School Student in Besut

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2026 — A male teacher has been remanded for two days to assist police investigations into an alleged sexual misconduct case involving a secondary school student in Besut, Terengganu.

The remand order against the 42-year-old teacher was issued by Magistrate Nur Liyana Md Zukri at the Besut Magistrate’s Court. The order took effect from Wednesday, May 27, and was granted to allow police to carry out further investigation into the case.

According to the report, the investigation is being conducted under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, a law that covers offences involving children and sexual misconduct.

Besut district police chief Superintendent Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahman previously said the teacher, who serves at a secondary school in the Besut district, was arrested at around 3pm on Tuesday, May 26. The arrest was made after police received reports lodged by two students.

The case drew public attention after allegations involving a male teacher and a male student in Besut went viral on Facebook several days earlier. Police action followed after the reports were made, leading to the teacher’s arrest and subsequent remand application.

At this stage, the case remains under investigation, and no conviction has been reported. The remand period allows police to record statements, gather evidence, and determine the next course of action based on the investigation findings.

The case has raised renewed concern over student safety and the responsibility of education institutions to ensure a secure environment for children and teenagers. Allegations involving minors are treated seriously under Malaysian law, especially when they involve persons in positions of trust.

Authorities are expected to continue investigating the matter under the relevant legal provisions before deciding whether further action will be taken.

The identities of the students involved have not been disclosed, in line with the sensitivity of cases involving minors.
